A Judge has refused jurisdiction in a case where a woman was left with a permanent plate and screws in her jaw after a serious assault in Bundoran.
The case against Calvin McCormack was before Judge Ciaran Liddy at Ballyshannon District Court.
McCormack, a 26-year-old of Gaelic Park, Bundoran, is charged with assault causing harm to Hollie Hickman on July 2, 2023 at Bundoran Community Library, Station Road, Bundoran.
The charge is contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.
Inspector Angela Cummins told the court that the defendant allegedly punched the injured party.
Inspector Cummins said the woman suffered two jaw fractures as a result of the incident. The woman has had a permanent plate and screws inserted in her jaw.
The woman also had to have a wisdom tooth removed.
Solicitor Mr Tom MacSharry represented McCormack at Friday’s brief hearing.
Judge Ciaran Liddy said the matter is ‘beyond the jurisdiction of the District Court’. Judge Liddy refused jurisdiction in the case.
Judge Liddy adjourned the case until July 19 to allow for a book of evidence to be prepared.
