In the first two hours of ‘National Slow Down Day’, a GoSafe van clocked a driver in Donegal travelling well in excess of the speed limit.
The motorists was detected doing 132 km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N13 at Teevickmoy, Stranorlar.
Gardaí warn they are also out in force in both marked and unmarked vehicles for the 24-hour initiative around the county.
“An Garda Síochána would like to thank drivers for their compliance during the first two hours of ‘National Slow Down Day’, making Irish roads safer for all road users,” a garda spokesperson said.
“We continue to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.”
Yesterday morning, Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit arrested a driver whose vehicle was detected travelling at 156 kph (97mph) in a 100kph (62mph) zone
Just four months into 2024, already 63 people have been killed on roads in Ireland. That is 14 more lives lost than on this same day last year.
“This is a worryingly high number that must be prevented from rising further by working together to keep road users safe,” the spokesperson added.
