Scoil Chróine National School in Dungloe is gathering support from all around the world through a “Sponsor a Square” fundraiser to raise €55,000 for new playground and sports facilities.
A unique campaign to transform the current gravel playground into an all-weather Astro surface was launched last week. By sponsoring a foot of space in the yard, people can play their part in making playtime more fun for the 300 students.
The new space will feature running tracks, basketball facilities, football pitches, and areas for non-athletic children.
School officials believe this project will significantly improve playtime and sporting events for the school community.
“Our children deserve better!” said a spokesperson for the Parents Association. “Currently, the majority of our kids are playing on gravel. We have plans for a fantastic new Astro area, but funding is a major hurdle.”
The total cost of the project is €100,000. The school has already raised a portion through previous fundraisers organized by the Parent’s Association. Therefore, the “Sponsor a Square” campaign aims to raise the remaining €55,000.
For a €20 donation, individuals can sponsor a “square” on the new play area. Donations can be made through the school’s iDonate page https://www.idonate.ie/event/scoilchroineplaygroundfundraiser.
“We believe that by breaking down the total cost into smaller donations, this project seems more achievable,” the spokesperson explained. “With 2,750 squares to sponsor, we’re hoping to reach out to past pupils and staff who may be willing to give back to their old school.”
Every donor will have their name displayed on a special “Friends of Scoil Chróine Appreciation Wall” as a token of gratitude for their contribution.
