The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Dunkineely Community CLG (DCL) will take place tomorrow evening at 7:30pm in MacLaughlin’s Bar.
DCL runs the St Patrick’s Parade, Killaghtee Festival and puts up the Christmas lights. It also runs conservation projects, provides local assistance and runs courses and events throughout the year.
The board is entirely run by volunteers, so if you want to commit a little time to your community, come along. All Welcome!
Anyone in Dunkineely, Killaghtee, Bruckless or the surrounding area is invited to attend, as well as those with an interest in the area.
Bug Hotel
A big thank you to Changemakers, Stuart Dunlop and Heather Cassidy for helping us put together a great event at Bruckless Park on Saturday 13 th April.
We started with Stuart Dunlop’s fascinating talk on what insects we will see in our new bug hotel and why all insects are so important to us, the human race.
This will include beetles, flies, solitary bees, ‘true’ bugs and spiders. All of which have a role to play in life as cleaners, pollinators and/or population controllers. You too can build a bug hotel.
We were then joined by Heather, who led a group of children as they decorated some stones for placement around our bug hotel. These will be on display soon.
So next time you see an insect in your home, think of re-homing them rather than killing them! For example, house spiders need shelter, like a garage or shed.
See the talk on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/DunkineelyCL
A big thank you to those who braved the weather. If you would like to find out more about the importance of insects and what you can do to help them, contact us at dunkineelycommunity@gmail.com
