Letterkenny Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh has said that graffiti issues in the town need to be nipped in the bud.
Spray paint has appeared on business properties, walls, signs and gates across the town in recent months.
After calls for an end to the vandalism spree were made in January, Cllr Kavanagh says the problem has arisen again. The unsightly tags are creating extra work for Tidy Towns volunteers in the lead-up to judging season, he said.
” I thought this had been dealt with and it seemed to have stopped, but it has now resurfaced and obviously from a different source, and to make matters worse it is on main street,” Cllr Kavanagh said.
“We are now approaching judging season for the Tidy Towns effort, and volunteers are working so hard to have the town looking its very best for that, they do not have time to devote to removing needless graffiti and it is so frustrating for them to see this problem raise its head again.”
Cllr Kavanagh said the most recent graffiti is impossible to ignore and its placement on Main Street “gives a bad impression of the town”.
He said: “I would appeal to any businesses who have CCTV to make it available and I would appeal to the Gardai to look out for the culprits, as this needs to be nipped in the bud as early as possible, and those doing it need to be aware that they are committing a crime and could find themselves in court.”
