Donegal’s Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD, is to be Director of Elections for his colleague, Senator Niall Blaney, in the European Election.
The two Fianna Fáil politicians, in a joint statement, said they would put maximum effort into securing a seat in the June poll.
Mr McConalogue said “Niall is a good friend and a tremendous public representative. His work ethic is second to none and I know he will be a first-class MEP and do Donegal proud.
“I’m honoured and delighted to have been asked to take on the role of Director of Elections and work alongside a very dedicated, focused and determined team.
“The Blaney name is synonymous with politics and public service in Donegal. Niall will work for everybody in the county and the vast constituency of Midlands-North West.
“We are determined to get the vote out but more than that, we are appealing to all voters, irrespective of their political affiliations, to put Donegal first.”
Senator Blaney said “This is a long campaign and to have Charlie heading up my team is a most welcome and positive endorsement.
“We will put maximum effort into winning a seat for Fianna Fail on June 7th. We will canvass extensively in Midlands-North West in an all-out effort to achieve a successful outcome.
“I would like nothing better than to earn the wholehearted support of my native county in this important contest. We’re on the edge of Europe and that brings its own challenges of being marginalised and disadvantaged. I will be a strong and vocal advocate not only for Donegal but rural communities throughout this constituency.”
