Lurgybrack National School from Letterkenny are taking to the stage at the National Concert Hall in Dublin today for the Waltons RTÉ lyric fm Music for Schools Competition.
The school is the only Ulster school to make it to the finals of the major contest.
And the excitement is building fast as the choir prepares to be the first act on stage at 1pm, with the performance to air on national radio.
Forty talented young musicians will be performing their original composition, “Moving On,” a bilingual piece about the bittersweet transition to post-primary school.
The song is a true group effort, with the concept coming from sixth-class pupil Joshua and the melody and lyrics taking shape through a collaborative process involving the entire choir.
Lurgybrack National School boasts a voluntary after-school band, in-school choir, and after-school drama group. With a mix of excitement and nervousness, the choir is ready to give their all on the famous stage.
Tune in to RTÉ Lyric FM this afternoon from 1pm or watch the live stream on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/k3Zp470ET9c as Evelyn Grant presents live coverage of the entire competition.
Twelve finalist schools are competing for a chance to win a share of €7,000 worth of vouchers for musical instruments and equipment, including two top prizes of €2,000 each.
The theme for this year’s competition is “Music Moves,” and Lurgybrack National School are ready to move the audience with their original song!
