Gardaí in Donegal have urged reckless motorists to stop playing roulette with the lives of all other road users.
The plea comes after a series of serious offences were detected in the Letterkenny and Buncrana areas over the weekend.
On Friday night, gardaí from Buncrana Roads Policing Unit arrested a suspected drunk driver who was speeding at 131 kilometres per hour (KPH) in a 100 KPH zone. The driver will face a potential court appearance in addition to a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) for speeding. The FCPN carries a €160 fine and three penalty points.
Another driver was caught speeding last night in Buncrana, travelling at 134 KPH in a 100 KPH zone. They will receive an FCPN for the offence.
In a separate incident on Sunday night, Letterkenny gardaí apprehended a driver suspected of drug driving. A drug test indicated a positive result for cocaine. Further tests are pending.
Gardaí took to Facebook with this warning today: “Too many people are taking risks on the roads and in doing so they are playing roulette with the lives of all other road users. Stop risking lives and start acting responsibly. It will be too late to change your ways when a tragedy does occur. Please don’t wait until it is too late.”
