Donegal…3-13 Fermanagh…1-04
Donegal never looked back as they led by six points at half-time, 2-04 to 0-04, taking complete control in the second-half adding another 1-09 and allowing Fermanagh just one more score, a late goal.
Ward and Fermanagh’s Daire Chapman exchanged early points and then Ward finished off a good Donegal move with their first goal.
Chapman added a second point, Tomas Carr replied from a free for Donegal and the teams then exchanged four points in quick succession, Taidgh O Brien and Chapman with his third for the home team while Conor McCahill added both Donegal’s scores and they led by 1-4 to 0-04.
Just before half-time Donegal struck a vital blow when Ward added his second goal to push the lead out to six points and with the elements in their favour in the second-half, in control of this game.
And so it proved as they ran out very comfortable winners by fifteen points.
Conor McCahill with three and Donnacha Boyle with his first of three made it 2-08 to 0-04 points and then McCahill added Donegal’s third goal and there was no way back for Fermanagh.
Boyle added two more points as did Turlough Carr while Eoghan Ban McNelis also chipped in with a point.
Tomas Cathcart got a late consolation goal for Fermanagh but it was too little too late.
Tougher games ahead for Donegal in the coming weeks but an impressive away win here to begin their campaign, it finished 3-13 to 1-04.
