Fury over water crisis in Bomany, Newmills and Tullygay

Frustration is mounting in the Bomany, Newmills and Tullygay areas outside Letterkenny following another weekend of water issues.

Residents report having little to no water supply since Thursday.

The area is awaiting major infrastructure works, but Uisce Eireann is being urged to move faster.

Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly said the problem cannot go on any longer.

“Residents are completely frustrated and I am frustrated for them,” he said.

“It’s getting to a shocking level and the people here are suffering far too long.”

Cllr Kelly has raised the issue numerous times with Uisce Eireann and with Donegal County Council. He also plans to bring it to the fore at a plenary meeting in Lifford this morning.

The latest update from Donegal County Council, shared with Cllr Kelly this month, said that: “Design has commenced on the proposed pipeline replacement/upgrade at Creeve Letterkenny. It is currently expected that construction would commence in April/May. Donegal County Council have requested Uisce Éireann to provide a formal update in relation to this work and the ongoing water issues in Bomany, Newmills, Tullygay and surrounding areas.”

Cllr Kelly added: “I’ll be adding as much pressure as I can to ensure Uisce Eireann start these works as a matter of urgency.”
