Jockey Nina Carberry has been officially confirmed as one of Fine Gael’s Midlands North-West European election candidates.

She joins current MEP Maria Walsh on the Fine Gael ticket for the upcoming elections.

Carberry will aim to take the seat currently occupied by outgoing Fine Gael colleague Colm Markey.

Markey announced that he would be withdrawing his nomination yesterday, clearing a path for the County Meath jockey to put her hat in a very different kind of race.
