The 100% Redress Party has given formal backing to The People’s Document as a way forward for ‘true redress’ for defective concrete property owners.
The document, created this month, sets out four principles of 100% Redress and addresses areas where homeowners say the government’s enhanced scheme falls short. The document calls for ‘like for like’ home rebuilds; a government managed, cost-free process with self-built opt out; inclusive supports for all those affected; and prevention of similar crises.
The document was the idea of campaigner and homeowner Michael Doherty and was drafted by a grouping of campaigners including Paddy Diver, Lisa Doherty Hela (100% Redress No Less), Lisa Hone, Tricia Doherty (MAG), Roisin Gallagher (Redress Focus Groups) and Michael Doherty. A public meeting earlier this month allowed homeowners to have their say on the publication before it was finalised.
A special meeting of the Executive Committee of the 100% Redress Party was convened yesterday to consider the Document.
Tomas Sean Devine, Chair of the Party, said he was delighted to confirm that the Committee unanimously voted to endorse The People’s Document, adding “However, we would like to see all properties in Northern Ireland, built with defective concrete products purchased in Ireland, included within the definition of a true 100% redress, and not just those property owners who are paying tax in the State.”
Every public representative in the Dáil and Seanad has received a copy of this document plus County Councillors in Donegal.
Campaigners are calling on politicians to show support for the principles and practical requirements detailed. In addition, politicians are invited to address a public meeting of homeowners on Tuesday 26th March, 7pm at the Gateway Hotel, Buncrana where they will have the opportunity to communicate their response.
