Donegal swimmers Anna Hennessy and Eoin Rooney begin racing today at the 11th World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships in Antalya, Turkey.
Heats began early this morning at the new Akdeniz University Olympic pool, with Anna competing in three events for freestyle and backstroke and Eoin in the 100m freestyle.
Anna (24) from Letterkenny and Eoin (22) from Ballyshannon, have a packed schedule of racing until Sunday.
They are part of a six-strong Irish team, also including Eoghan Ashe, Robbie English, David Hogg and Kevin Kennedy. Their coaching team is Niall Molloy and Sinead Donagher, Eoin’s mother.
The games follow Anna and Eoin’s success at the European Down Syndrome Swimming Championships in Italy in September.
The duo train at Finn Valley Leisure Centre under coach Sinead Donagher and strength and conditioning coach Sean Foley.
The duo is affiliated with Swilly Seals ASC, Letterkenny and Nemo Special Olympics Swim Club, FVLC.
