Two creative Donegal school teams have earned spots in the Dublin City final of Junk Kouture 2024.
Students from Pobalscoil Chloich Cheann Fhaola and Loreto Community School Milford wowed on the catwalk at the Helix on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th March, where 160 designs battled it out.
Just 60 designs made it through from the regional finals of the sustainable fashion competition.
Among them is Lady Of The Landscape by Aisling McFadden, Éabha McGinley and Sinéad Browne, Pobalscoil Chloich Cheann Fhaola, Falcarragh. The showstopping gown carries a message against illegal dumping in the boglands of Donegal. The designers captured the landscape’s lush greens and regal purples using salvaged duvets, plastic bottles, prams and a Christmas tree.
Also through to the final is Pretty in Pink by Kerri McNutt, Ruby Grier and Caoimhe Gallagher, Loreto Community School, Milford.
The dress and headpiece were inspired by the Barbie film, using recycled pink bale wrap, old jeans, pillowcases, curtains and a lampshade.
The regional finals were hosted by TV and radio presenter Louise Cantillon on Monday and TG4 star Darragh Ó Caoimh on Tuesday, while The Debonairs from Killybegs brought the musical entertainment to the stage.
Junk Kouture Director of Global Events and Production Megan Kelly said: “What a fantastic two nights in the Helix! The atmosphere was incredible. Congratulations to everyone who took part, there was so much creativity and imagination on display. To our 60 Dublin City Finalists, we will see you in May!
