Burtonport business owner John Reilly has put his name forward to be a Fianna Fáil candidate to contest the next local elections.
A former fisherman, John is the owner of the Wheelhouse Cafe and glamping pods in Burtonport.
He has expressed his ambition to continue the legacy of the late Noreen Mc Garvey in representing the people of the Rosses in the Glenties MD.
“Noreen provided great service and dedication to public life and public service through her work with Pat the Cope Gallagher,” John said in tribute to Cllr McGarvey following her sad passing in December.
Following discussions with Cllr McGarvey’s family, he has decided to seek a Fianna Fáil selection to represent the Rosses area.
John says his strengths lie in his experience of working within the fishing sector, the private sector and as an employer.
“I recently established the Wheelhouse Restaurant and glamping site in Burtonport, which is providing local employment for the Rosses area.
“I have an excellent work ethic, I am hard working and fully committed to all my undertakings. I feel I can with the support of the party make both a local contribution to our area as well as undertaking to rebuild the party in the wider area. Rural areas require strong representation, they need a voice at the table it is for that reason I offer my candidacy for the June County Council elections.”
A convention is set to be held soon to select the candidates Fianna Fail will decide to run for the Glenties Municipal District.
