County Donegal has recorded the highest percentage of “No” votes in the state in the Family referendum.
With votes tallied in all electoral areas but one, Donegal recorded an 80.2% “No” vote.
The next highest percentage was recorded in Cavan-Monaghan, with 78.1% voting “No”.
Turnout was below that of other referendums in recent years such as the marriage equality and abortion referendums, and in Donegal was recorded at 40%.
Only one LEA has voted “Yes”, that being Dún Laoghaire in Dublin at 50.3% voting in favour of the changes to the constitution.
The only count not to be completed as of time of publication is Galway West.
The result is a resounding defeat for the Government, with the “No” vote currently sitting at 67.7%.
It is also expected that the other constitutional change up for debate at the polls yesterday regarding Care will also be soundly defeated when votes are tallied.
