Donegal’s former Road safety Officer has been honoured for his trojan work in trying to make the county’s roads a safer place.
Brian O’Donnell retired last year after 12 years heading Donegal County Council’s road safety plan.
Mr O’Donnell worked with Donegal County Council for a total of 43 years before his retirement.
This week he was honoured by the Road Safety Authority at their Annual Seminar in the Hodson Bay Hotel in Athlone.
The RSA honoured the Letterkenny man for his tireless work in highlighting road safety awareness for the benefit of all road users.
Speaking at the seminar following the presentation Brian said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my career with Donegal County Council and working in road safety have had the honour and privilege of working with so many fantastic and dedicated people.
As for retirement, I have plenty to keep me busy.
“I continue to be involved in road safety and the programmes I am involved with, will save lives which is so very important.
“I will continue to do consultancy work, with the occasional game of golf thrown in – obviously not at the same time!” he told Donegal Daily.
Donegal County Council have said they hope to appoint a new Road Safety officer soon.
