The HSE has said there are no plans to cut public health nursing services from Fahan Health Centre.
It follows concerns locally that the public health nurse was due to be relocated to Buncrana.
Local people had launched an immediate campaign that included an online petition highlighting the importance of the service.
However, HSE has today confirmed that Public Health Nurse Services continue to be provided in the Fahan Health Centre.
“There are no plans at present to close any other Health Centres,” a spokesperson said.
Cllr Jack Murray said this is good news for all.
“I’m delighted with the response from the HSE and I hope that this alleviates the concerns of people in Fahan,” Cllr Murray said.
Cllr Murray paid tribute to the local community for gathering the petition, raising public awareness and demonstrating that they would not accept a reduction in services
“While the HSE says there is currently no plan to move services, should this ever arise again it’s clear the people won’t stand for it,” he said.
