The owners of An Bonnán Buí in Rathmullan have called time on the bistro, marking another loss in Donegal’s culinary scene.
Husband and wife, Martin Kelly and Monica Santos, announced the closure of their beloved business today citing a mix of business and personal reasons.
An Bonnán Buí (The Yellow Bittern) has been a go-to restaurant for locally-sourced dishes, with fresh and creative ingredients and a blend of Irish, European and South American flavours.
The sister cafe, Éan Eile, will remain open in Letterkenny.
In a message to customers, Martin and Monica said: “Over more than two decades (with a couple of breaks), we have had so many great times, and a lot of fun.
“From our wonderful staff (some of whom we lost along the way, like the great Mary Toye, what a character and someone we will always miss), to you our customers, we thank you for so many wonderful nights of food, friendship, singing and dancing.
“We would like to thank all of our staff down the years who worked hard alongside us whether front of house or in the kitchen. We would also like to thank our suppliers over our many years of business. We literally could not have done it without you all.
“And to our customers – we hope you enjoyed being part of the An Bonnán Buí story. We tried to make it as memorable as possible for you every time. We are hugely grateful for your support.
“To our family and friends, thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
“Our other bird, Éan Eile Café, will still be open in Letterkenny and we hope to see you all there.”
