‘Conditional’ planning permission has been granted for part of a massive new residential development on the outskirts of Letterkenny.

Developer PJ McDermott had sought planning for 188 new housing units at Glencar Irish and Glencar Scotch. However, council planners granted permission for a reduced development to include 126 units, made up of 110 houses and 16 apartments.

The developer had initially applied for the construction of 160 houses and 28 apartments, which were to be spread across seven separate apartment blocks.

An objection had been lodged by the Old Glencar Road, Solomon’s Grove and Upper Fernhill Residents Associations

The first phase of the proposed development, which contains 90 units, remains subject of an appeal to An Bord Pleanála.

The two phases of the development will be connected via a new entrance from The Grange estate.
