Gardaí are urging all car owners to ensure their vehicles are locked, following two reported incidents in villages of East Donegal last weekend.

The first theft occurred at Pump Street, Carrigans between approx. 4.45am and 5am in the early hours of Saturday the 24th of February.

A car was left unlocked as the key was faulty. A small sum of cash was stolen from within the car, while no damage was caused.

The second incident, at Main Street, St. Johnston between 5am and 5.20am on the 24th Feb, saw an unlocked car damaged after entry was gained. Damage was caused to the ignition of the car, but nothing was stolen from it.

Gardaí are particularly interested in any sightings of two male youths in the area around the times in question.

Investigators are appealing for dashcam footage from the areas at the times of the incidents.

If anybody can assist with relevant information, they are asked to contact Gardaí in Letterkenny on 074-9167100.

A garda spokesperson said: “We continue to appeal to all car owners to ensure that they have locked their car before leaving it unattended regardless of whether it is parked in a public place or at home. Never leave cash or other valuables in your car.”
