Finn Harps have been dealt a huge blow on the eve of their league opener with the news that Ryan Flood has returned to America.
Finn Harps boss Darren Murphy has said the 25-year-old has returned to his home on ‘compassionate leave’.
However, Donegal Daily understands the fans favourite will not return to the club.
Murphy told the club’s FHTV last night “It is indefinitely at the moment.
“We don’t know for how long. At the end of the day, Ryan needs a break. He needs to be at home with his family.
“We understand that as a football club, the group of players understand that and I understand that.
“We draw a line in the sand now and we move on.”
The American was signed by Dave Rogers and was a stand-out player scoring 14 goals for Harps in 37 league games last season.
It is understood he has had offers from Galway and other clubs at the end of last season but chose to stay with Harps.
Murphy said: “Ryan is like other members of our football squad. We have players out of the game through injury and we have players out of the game through suspension.
“At this time, Ryan needs to be at home in America with his family.”
