A fundraising campaign has been launched for Donegal youth centre to mark the birthday of a tragic local musician who was killed in a crash before Christmas.
Ramelton man Paul Mooney died following a two car collision on the main Letterkenny to Lifford Road on December 18, last. He would have been 31 today.
Paul was described as a ‘brilliant beam of sunshine’ at his funeral mass.
The mass also heard how he lived for music and had supported Irish band Kodaline and was due to play the famous Glastonbury Festival in England this summer with his band Boy M5.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by his mum, Gwen, which has raised €1,570 since yesterday.
“February 15th is Paul’s birthday,” Gwen explains.
“As you know, at his funeral donations in lieu of flowers were towards Elevate 55 otherwise known locally as The Loft. Many people have asked us for an option to provide an online donation so we decided to do this in his memory for his birthday.”
The Loft is a local youth support/drop-in service, providing supports for young people experiencing difficulties in their life with issues such as bullying, grief, sexuality, family conflict, school, friendship/relationship difficulties or other struggles.
“Paul was involved with The Loft for many years and always spoke highly and fondly of his involvement and the positive impact it has on young people.”
