A full restoration is needed to repair worsening potholes on the Long Lane in Letterkenny, Donegal County Council has heard.
Recent icy weather has caused more break-up of the road surface and motorists are now hitting potholes appearing around ramps, Cllr Gerry McMonagle told the Letterkenny-Milford MD on Tuesday.
“It’s a long hill as we know, and a lot of water runs down it. It’s regularly salted but that’s taking its toll on the surface of the road,” Cllr McMonagle said.
“It’s getting dangerous at this stage.”
Cllr McMonagle pointed out that the Long Lane is the main thoroughfare for up to 600 households, as well as traffic taking an alternative route to Windyhall.
He said that patchwork repairs would not suffice: “I think the road is due a full restoration, such is the volume of traffic on that road.”
In a response, the council said: “A section of the Long lane road is on the reserve list of schemes prioritized for restoration Improvement funding in 2024 and inclusion in the 2024 surfacing programme is dependent on the allocations of funding received.
“In the meantime interim repairs will be carried out as part of the normal maintenance programme.”
