Letterkenny community groups and businesses are being invited to get involved in the much-anticipated Letterkenny St.Patrick’s Day Parade.
The parade is taking place this year on Sunday 17th March.
The parade is one of the biggest in the county and this year Letterkenny Chamber is hoping to make this one another full on celebration with a festival atmosphere on the day.
This year St.Patrick’s Day marks the start of One Donegal Social Inclusion Week so we would be delighted if participants would highlight Social Inclusion in their entry.
One Donegal Social Inclusion Week is the opportunity to promote and highlight the positive work that the public and community sectors are involved in, to reduce discrimination, poverty and social exclusion but it is also an important opportunity to reflect on the challenges faced by vulnerable members of our community.
As always we are sending the call out to sporting groups, dance studios, gymnastic clubs, community groups and schools to get involved. The parade is an opportunity to celebrate in style on this important national holiday.
Chamber President Fionnuala Rabbitt said “Last year we had one of the biggest ever turnouts for the parade and we hope to keep the momentum going this year.
St. Patrick’s Day is an important event in the calendar marking the start of the Spring season. This year it falls on a weekend, making it extra special so everyone in Letterkenny is looking forward to a fantastic few days of fun and celebration. The Letterkenny Parade is a great family event in Letterkenny, so the more groups that get involved the better the parade.”
The Letterkenny Parade is fun, inclusive and colourful, a real family celebration.
“The parade is organised by Letterkenny Chamber and over the next few weeks we will be fundraising for the event”, explains Leonard Watson, the Chair of the St.Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. “Over the last few years we have had a brilliant response from the business community who donate towards the cost of the parade. If any business wants to make a donation please just get in touch with the office or one of the committee. These direct donations make such a difference to the success of the parade.”
This year entertainment will start at the stage at Market Centre at 1.30pm with the parade proper starting at 3pm.
In addition there will be a photo booth located on the Main Street, where spectators and their families can get a commemorative photo of this special day.
For those gathering to watch the parade there will be music along the street from 2pm. So there’ll be lots to keep everyone entertained until the parade starts at 3pm.
Fionnuala continued “we are asking everyone to get behind our St.Patrick’s day event in Letterkenny this year to help us make it the special day it should be.”
