A near-miss incident on the Lurgybrack hill in Letterkenny has reignited calls for improved drainage infrastructure.
Councillor Donal Coyle brought the issue to the attention of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District this week, highlighting an incident last month where a car lost control due to standing water on the N13 road.
“The car went across the road and luckily there was no vehicles coming that the time,” Cllr Coyle said.
Cllr Coyle commended the council for attending the scene to put sandbags down but said there is a need for a permanent solution to water flowing down this road every time there is heavy rain.
He has asked the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District to contact Transport Infrastructure Ireland to install a pipe in the area.
“There is a track that is not able to take the flow of water, it does need to be piped,” Cllr Coyle said.
The matter is now set to be referred to the National Roads Design Office to request that these works will be included in future TII projects at this location.
