Gardaí have issued a stern warning to a gang of Inishowen youths who have been ‘harassing people’ in the area for some time.
Buncrana Garda Station received three complaints of similar types of criminal damage incidents that occurred in Carndonagh last Friday alone.
Garda Niall Maguire said young boys in the area are going around harassing people by throwing eggs at houses.
“They might think this is harmless, but there’s nothing funny about it for the residents concerned,” he said.
“We have good quality CCTV that we are currently examining and these young men will be dealt with – catch yourselves on.”
The first incident occurred at approximately 12:55 am on the morning of
Friday the 9 th of February when the resident of a house in the Tul Na Rí area of Carndonagh woke to the sound of a vehicle engine outside. Objects were then thrown at the bedroom window. Three male youths were captured on CCTV (aged between approx. 15-18) outside the house in question and it transpired that eggs had been thrown at the windows and walls of the property.
On the same date, at around 1.50am, a resident at Donagh Park heard his dog barking and when he looked out he saw a number of male youths beside his car. They left when they were observed. The resident then discovered eggs and other foodstuff on his doorstep and on his car.
Later that morning, at around 2am, a resident at Drimdoo, Foden, heard a bang at her downstairs bedroom window. Upon further inspection, she discovered that eggs had been thrown at the window.
Garda Maguire added they were treating the incidents with equal seriousness. He said there was ‘nothing funny’ about throwing eggs at homes, particularly those of the elderly and people living alone.
He appealed to anybody who travelled in any of the above areas or within the general Carndonagh area in the early hours of last Friday and who may have observed any suspicious activity/vehicles to make contact with Gardaí.
“We are particularly interested in any sightings or dash cam footage of a blue/silver jeep in the area,” Garda Maguire said.
“These types of incidents can be particularly frightening for anybody who lives alone, even though the damage caused is not substantial. We are eager to progress our investigation into these matters and so we appeal to anybody who can assist with relevant information to make contact with Gardaí in Buncrana on 074-9320540.”
