The Cathaoirleach of Glenties has called on Donegal TDs to fight for the people of Donegal who cannot build near the N56.
The National Policy which restricts access on the N56 has long been disputed by Cllr McClafferty.
Councillors meet again in Lifford today to discuss the Draft County Development Plan for 2024-2030.
But Cllr McClafferty said that there is little hope for an end to the challenges posed by what he describes as a “stupid rule”.
Cllr Michael McClafferty said: “As we head towards the 11th hour of the County Development plan and no resolution of access to the N56 in sight for anybody in West Donegal, alongside other outstanding issues, the N56 is truly the elephant in the room for many years now.
“I’m now publicly calling on our Donegal TDs to please get into the Dáil and fight for your county. Your people, your constituents are the children of the future. Give them hope by changing this stupid N56 rule in west Donegal and at least let those who want to build houses on their own lands be allowed to do so. It’s our fields it’s our land that people dug out stones with their bare hands for us to live.”
