Finn Valley AC has rolled out The Daily Mile venture to schools in Donegal – and will culminate in a Come and Try day at the club next month.
The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances.
The Daily Mile is a social physical activity, with children running or jogging – at their own pace – in the fresh air with friends. Children can occasionally walk to catch their breath, if necessary, but should aim to run or jog for a full 15 minutes.
The idea has been rolled out in numerous European countries – and is returning to Donegal.
Finn Valley AC has been consistently engaging with schools in the area for over 50 years now and is continually endeavouring to find new ways to enhance these relationships,
Finn Valley AC schools coaches Ann Slevin and Enda Doherty have been engaging with schools ahead of the event.
“We are excited about it,” said Ann Slevin. “We have been in touch with the participating schools now who are taking on The Daily Mile in the winter-spring period and have received enthusiastic responses.”
The Daily Mile invites participants to walk, jog or run one mile each day for six weeks.
The Daily Mile is supported by Athletics Ireland. A Come and Try event will take place at Finn Valley AC on March 7. On a day that will feature numerous local sports stars, school flags and t-shirts will be presented to participants.
