The organising committee for the annual Bundoran St Patrick’s Day Parade has announced that the theme for this year’s event on March 17th will be “Together – Le Chéile”.
Preparations for the parade are well underway at this stage with thousands expected in the seaside town for the long weekend and especially for the parade which as usual will take place on St Patrick’s Day itself from 3:30pm moving from East to West up the Main Street.
Parade Director John O’Connell gave the background to the theme ‘in 2024 there has never been a more important time for everyone to look out for each other and be together as much as possible. Our parade is one event that does just that – brings people together – families and friends will descend on the town for the weekend and we will also be welcoming some international guests to be together with us as we celebrate our national feast day.’
Guests from a number of Bundoran’s twin towns across Europe through Douzelage Town Twinning will take part in the parade as well as many of our Ukrainian community, a college group from Georgia in the USA and at least four marching bands have confirmed their participation on the day.
Bundoran Tourism Officer Shane Smyth added ‘it’s at this point that we would encourage local businesses and community groups and organisations to begin their preparations for their floats and entries. As usual we welcome all groups to take part on the day – the more colourful the better and keep in mind the theme being “Together-Le Chéile” when doing your planning. The Mary Gallagher Perpetual Cup will once again be up for grabs by the winning group. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to Bundoran for the long weekend in March.’
