It was another busy week for athletes at Rosses AC, both on and off the field.
Last weekend was a mix of indoor competition and outdoors with a number of athletes travelling for a season opener yesterday at the University of Jordanstown where Athletics NI hosted a jumps and throws day.
Five Rosses AC athletes competed, with Oisin Gillespie taking in the u16 Boys Long Jump and High Jump and a good start with 5.48m long jump and 1.65m High. The McGonagle sisters of Caoimhe and Aoife as well as the Logue Sisters of Aileen and Eva (main pic) did the High Jump with all getting good jumps in and got a feel for competition mode again. Caoimhe also did the Shot Put and picked up from last year with a great throw of 10.46m to put a nice marker of things to come for the year ahead. Well done to all.
On Sunday it was an outdoor meeting at the Donegal Track and Field Classic where we had huge numbers, won loads of medals but most of all had a great day. This event is a great annual event organised by Donegal Athletic Board to get athletes focused towards indoors and outdoors which follow quickly after. Well done to Lifford Strabane AC for hosting and big thanks to all our athletes, officials, coaches and especially the parents who gave up their Sunday to ensure a memorable day.
Last week the club held its AGM at the Ionad in Dungloe and reports from officers all continue to highlight the great progress being made on multiple fronts. These include registered members, facilities development, number of accredited coaches, number of accredited officials and the great successes being had by juveniles and adults in all areas. Thanks to all who attended and the following committee was elected: Chairperson – Michael McElroy, Vice Chairperson – Cormac McGarvey, Secretary- Roseleen McGarvey, Treasurer – Hugh McLaughlin, CWO – Cathriona Brennan, Registrar – Lorraine Doherty, PRO – Keith O Connell (adult) Michael Logue (juvenile), CDO – Michael Logue, Youth Liaison Officer – Kathleen McGonagle, Club captain’s – Charlie O Donnell (men), Martina Mulhern (women), Co Board delegates: Roseleen McGarvey, Cormac McGarvey, Sinead Diver, Kathleen McGonagle.
This weekend sees action move to the Throws event on Saturday at the Aura in Letterkenny where we have a large number of athletes from u14 to Masters registered to take part. Meanwhile on Sunday the Cross Country season starts to draw to a close in Dundalk with the All Ireland Cross Country for Intermediate, Masters and Juveniles B Championships.
