Gardaí say they are treating last night’s house fire in Ballybofey as a ‘criminal’ act.
Emergency services responded to reports of a blaze at the former home of the late May and Francis Mulrine at Trusk Road shortly after 9:30pm.
The fire was eventually brought under control by Donegal Fire Services after several hours, however, extensive damage was caused to the property. The bungalow had been lying vacant for a number of years.
Garda Clare Rafferty said the scene is currently preserved and a full forensic and technical examination will take place today.
“The property in question was home to a music school in its day and it would be well known to everybody in the community,” she explained.
“We are appealing for the assistance of the public in relation to any sightings of people in or around the property in question at any stage yesterday evening or last night between approximately 7pm and 9.30pm.
“If anybody travelled in that area (Trusk Road, Navenny Street or the link road between the Donegal Road and Trusk Road) with a dash cam at any stage yesterday evening or last night, we ask them to make the footage available to Gardaí.”
