The iconic Biddy’s Bar in Glencolmcille is set to be transformed into a tourist hub.
Donegal County Council gave the green light this week to Mecl Ireland Ltd for the proposed development in the village of Cashel.
Michael Byrne, the chairperson of the local Naomh Columba GAA Club, is a director of the company.
The works will include the demolition of an existing storage shed to make way for the construction of a three-storey multipurpose building. It will include a tourist accommodation block, a multi-purpose room, transport hub, conference room and a bike area.
The much loved old pub is also set for a makeover. Existing extensions are to be demolished to make for a new structure which will include a lounge area, a new kitchen and restaurant area as well as outdoor seating.
Renowned for its traditional music sessions, Biddy’s has been closed for a number of years. It was placed on the market in 2019 with an asking price of €125,000. However, it was later reduced to €95,000.
