Frustration over yet another water outage outside Letterkenny

Emergency action is being sought as residents of Bomany, Newmills, Conwal and Tullygay endured almost daily water issues in the first month of 2024.

Residents have reported low-pressure and outages almost every day this January as they await vital infrastructure works.

The replacement and upgrade of approximately 6km of mains have been approved for inclusion in the 2024 programme.

Meanwhile, another supply disruption is being investigated by Uisce Eireann today.

Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly said the current situation is completely unacceptable.

“The residents are frustrated and I don’t blame them, it’s happening far too often,” Cllr Kelly said.

Cllr Kelly has again contacted Donegal County Council water services and Uisce Eireann about the issue.

“I am asking that a dedicated team will be sent out to detect leaks and make repairs on this line. Uisce Eireann have given a commitment that they will send out a team, but the long-term works have to commence as soon as possible.”

Large scale works have begun today in the Manorcunningham area and it is hoped that the Bomany and Newmills project will follow closely afterwards.

Cllr Kelly added: “I will continue to keep the pressure on Uisce Eireann to ensure these works start as soon as they possibly can.”
