A call has been made for urgent upgrade works at a road outside Letterkenny after another motorist had a near miss at a notorious junction.
It comes after a motorist ploughed through a fence and ended up in a field at the Rahan/Listack Junction on the back road from Drumkeen to Letterkenny.
The driver’s car was badly damaged but it is understood the driver was not badly injured.
The car involved in the crash had a Cavan registration suggesting the driver may not have been familiar with the road.
Traffic on the road has increased considerably following the opening of the four lane junction into Letterkenny and the switching-on of the Polestar traffic lights.
Local county councillor Donal Kelly has now pledged to put down a motion to have upgraded safety measures put at the junction.
He told Donegal Daily “It is certainly a cause for concern and especially as I feel there has been increased traffic on this particular road since the four lane road opened and the traffic lights began at the Polestar.
“I will certainly be putting down a motion calling for increased safety measures to be introduced at this junction and I have already contacted the council about resurfacing some of that overall road.”
