A DUP peer who was born in Donegal is to be granted a British passport after a 20 year battle.
Lord William Hay of Ballyore currently holds an Irish passport due to him being born in the Republic of Ireland, but despite living in Northern Ireland for most of his life there has been no way for him to automatically acquire a UK passport.
That may now change as a bill proposed by a DUP MP looks set to pass in the British Parliament.
The proposals submitted by MP Gavin Robinson aim to extend similar passport provisions to those born in Ireland that wish to hold a British passport, that those born in the North and wish to acquire an Irish passport have.
