A man has been ordered to stay out of the Letterkenny Garda District after being charged in connection with a spate of thefts in east Donegal.
Martin O’Hara was brought before Glenties District Court on Wednesday morning having been charged with handling stolen property.
Detective Garda Shauna Rowley gave evidence of arresting O’Hara on Tuesday at 10.55am under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 on suspicion of committing an offence under Section 17 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.
O’Hara made no reply when cautioned by gardai. O’Hara was charged at 6.55pm on Tuesday and again he made no reply.
The 37-year-old was charged with handling stolen property, namely a Station House Hotel, Letterkenny voucher, valued at €60. The charge is contrary to Section 17 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.
The court was informed that O’Hara’s address cannot be reported.
Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that there are likely to be further charges in the matter.
Gardai agreed to bail on condition that O’Hara provide a telephone number on which he is to be contactable at all times. O’Hara is to sign on at Ballyshannon Garda Station and, apart from prearranged legal appointments or to attend court, he is to stay out of the Letterkenny District.
Solicitor for O’Hara, Mr Rory O’Brien, said there were ‘no difficulties’ with the conditions.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham remanded O’Hara on bail to appear at Letterkenny District Court on March 25, 2024.
