Tributes have been paid to the local workers who braved the elements to keep Donegal moving during the recent snow and storms.
Over the past week, dedicated crews have put in countless hours clearing roads, attending emergencies and keeping people safe and connected.
Those hardworking individuals deserve massive acknowledgement, says County Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly.
“Thank you must go out to the Donegal County Council Roads Maintenance crews, emergency services, media outlets, and the general public over the last week particularly,” Cllr Kelly said.
“From the gritting crew who did their level best to leave piles of grit in all rural areas that they could get to and also filled grit Bunkers in our towns and villages.
“To the lorry drivers who did their level best to grit all roads on the gritting programme and in some cases roads that were not.
“To the staff and the general public, the ESB staff, gardaí, ambulance personnel and fire staff and all other emergency services that pulled out all stops through the storms to ensure people were attended to, roads were kept clear and in more serious matters kept peoples homes safe, well done.
“These people all have families and in many ways risked their own lives for us all, and I feel it’s important to acknowledge this.”
Cllr Kelly also added his acknowledgement to media outlets that kept information flowing and to members of the public who, “in my opinion, were so understanding, patient, and most of all very grateful and helpful”.
“It was a tough week between snow, ice, wind, and rain, but everyone did their bit, and that was so important.”
