The award-winning Butt Drama Circle will stage a thrilling murder mystery in Ballybofey this weekend.
‘Murder in The Balor’, which has been described as a play within a play, will be performed on Friday night at Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club and on Saturday night at the Balor Theatre.
But, be warned, the performance opens with a corpse! It also gets off to a bad start with a missing prop, a latecomer, a clumsy actor, a bickering husband and wife and a bullied Propos Mistress as well as a frustrated and bad-tempered director. Things couldn’t get any worse can they? Oh yes they can, when one of the cast ends up dead…… Murdered! So, whodunnit?
There will be some well known faces in the cast including Jim Holohan, winner of best actor award in his last play, and Donna Marie Doherty who is fresh from her wonderful performance in the Root of All Evil which came 2nd at the All Ireland Drama Festival. It also includes newcomer Grace Quinn who was a charming Princess in the Panto, ‘Foundered’ and Highland Radio’s Rory Farrell, who is well known as the Butt Drama Circle’s Panto Dame for many years. Marina Marcinekova is also fresh from a great performance in the Panto and Marie Kelly, a very welcome newcomer, joins the team. The young, but experienced, Daniel Browne who played a blinder in the play Sons of Ulster Marching on the Somme, also stars.
Murder in the Balor is directed by the legendary Kathleen McGowan who has seen and done it all, drama wise.
This is ‘guaranteed’ to be a great night’s entertainment. If you fancy yourself as an amateur sleuth or just looking for a night at the theatre with a difference, this is the show for you.
