Two men have been arrested after an armed robbery at a Rathmullan business on Thursday evening.
A staff member in a local supermarket was left shaken after a man entered the business brandishing a knife.
The thief left the scene with a large sum of money.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred on Pound Street.
Gardaí launched an urgent search and subsequently arrested two men (both aged in their 20s) and recovered the money and weapon.
Both men are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Northern region.
Local Councillor Pauric McGarvey said the community is shocked by the incident.
He said: “The people in Rathmullan don’t condone this behaviour at all.
“Thanks to the quick actions of the gardaí the money was recovered and the suspects have been caught.
“This is something that doesn’t happen in the town of Rathmullan, and hopefully it’s only a one-off.”
