Donegal County Council is actively using drones in the fight against illegal dumping.
Councillors were informed of the move at yesterday’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar MD.
The operation was coordinated by the Connacht Ulster Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authority (CU WERLA).
“Waste and litter staff have been trained, licences (are) in place and drone work (is) in progress,” a report presented to councillors read.
“Thanks to CU WERLA for support and guidance without whom this would not have been achievable.”
The report added that the council’s Environment team has been working closely with Inland Fisheries Ireland in relation to the installation of surveillance cameras to catch dumpers.
