A new arts centre is set to be established in Ardara under recently announced renewal scheme plans.
The community space will form a new chapter in the heritage town’s rejuvenation and add more social vibrancy.
The project is made possible through the Building Acquisition Measure (BAM) Programme, announced this week, which has led to the acquisition of two derelict buildings in the town centre to be repurposed.
In partnership with Donegal County Council, local group AWAKE Tourism conducted a Health Check Survey and Regeneration Plan for Ardara through Paul Doherty Architects. The community surveys led by Paul Doherty’s team resoundingly highlighted the need for the establishment of an Arts Centre in Ardara as a top priority for the town’s future.
AWAKE Tourism have express their deepest appreciation to Donegal County Council Officials, local councillor Anthony Molloy, and dedicated board members.
“Their dedication has been vital in achieving this result, setting Ardara apart as the sole community in Donegal to be granted funding under the BAM Programme,” a spokesperson said.
In response to the community preference for an arts centre, AWAKE’s next steps include conducting detailed surveys and designing the properties, with the aim of securing planning permission.
“This is an exciting time for Ardara as we step forward into a phase of transformation and cultural enrichment.”
