Donegal County Council has purchased lands at Stranorlar which could resolve traffic congestion at a problem junction and the creation of a new ‘town square’.
Today’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar MD heard the local authority has acquired land known as Dr Kee’s Field in order to provide social housing at Millbrae.
Cllr Patrick McGowan said he welcomed the purchase but that a new pedestrian crossing needs to be installed there as well as a footpath.
However, he said McClay’s Corner also needs to be ‘looked at.’
Council engineer, Adrian McCool, said the possibilities for the junction are the realignment of the road which could lead to the provision of a new ‘town square’ for the town. He also agreed that a number of council departments need to work together to solve the traffic issues at McClay’s Corner.
