Planned works at controversial pedestrian crossings in the Twin Towns could lead to the loss of parking spaces.
The matter was raised at today’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar MD by Councillor Patrick McGowan.
Safety concerns have been raised since the High Visibility Crossings (HVC) were installed in 2022 at four existing courtesy pedestrian crossings in Ballybofey and Stranorlar.
The meeting heard that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) plans to raise the crossing as well as installing lighting and signage.
While he welcomed the works, Cllr McGowan said he had some concerns.
“It is good to see that TII and the council’s Road Design Office are looking at plans for the pedestrian crossings in the Twin Towns,” Cllr McGowan said.
“But, I was told parking spaces will be lost when the crossings are raised. That will be a bone of contention with businesses so we need to have consultation with them.”
