A group of talented young singers from Donegal enjoyed great success at a prestigious competition in New York this week.
Ceoltóirí Canóla (Singers of the Goddess Canóla), from Danu Young Women’s Choir in Letterkenny, placed fifth in the Youth Contest of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Midwinter Convention.
The group comprises Sadbh Breathnach & Síne Ó hAodha (Colaiste Áiligh), Katie Coyle (Loreto Letterkenny), and Alice O’Connor (Loreto Milford). They have been singing together as part of Danu Young Women’s Choir since late 2022 but Ceoltóirí Canóla was only formed a short few months ago.
This is only their second competition and they are overjoyed to have scored so highly at this event.
There was no time to relax for the girls though as their choir, Danu Young Women’s Choir under the directorship of Douglas Carnes, are competing in the Chorus Competition today, Friday 12th January.
The girls have been busy during their time in New York in the lead up to their competitions with performances at both St Patrick’s Cathedral at the Consulate General of Ireland.
