Daniel O’Donnell has led the tributes to renowned Donegal singer Seamus McGee.
Seamus, who hailed from Gaoth Dobhair, passed away yesterday.
Seamus (pictured above at the height of his fame) had close ties from a young age with Clannad and was taught to play music by Leo Brennan.
Despite working with GT Carpets and traveling the world, Seamus always had a deep love of music.
He fronted The Nashville Showband and played at many venues around the country.
His close friend Daniel O’Donnell spoke of his shock at learning of Seamus’ passing.
Daniel told fans “I’m shocked and saddened to hear of the death of seamus McGee. I spoke to him on the phone on Tuesday afternoon.
“On behalf of Majella and myself I send our sincere sympathy to Sarah, Ciara, Cian and all the McGee family. Rest in peace, Seamus.”
Daniel’s sister Margo “He was a gentleman and a friend always. We toured England together and I have lovely memories.
“Heaven’s choir has a new voice today. Rest with God, my friend.”
A native speaker, Seamus sang many of his songs in Irish.
However, many will remember him for his hit “Come Home Danny Boy” written by his cousin Danny O’Donnell.
His funeral details are yet to be announced.
May he rest in peace.
