Green Party Leader and Minister for Environment, Climate, Communications and Transport Eamon Ryan will be travelling to Donegal this week for a number of engagements.
The Minister is also due to meet staff and members of Donegal County Council on Friday afternoon.
Cathaoirleach of Glenties MD Cllr Michael McClafferty said he will be offering the Minister a tour of West Donegal.
The tour, Cllr McClafferty said, would be to “explain why Donegal is unique up here from the bright lights of Dublin City”.
Independent Cllr McClafferty is calling for an end to restrictive planning conditions on the N56, which are preventing people from building houses on the route.
He said the barrier to planning is forcing people to leave the area.
“We need that access onto the N56, no exceptions and it’s time Dublin stopped telling us what to do in Donegal,” he said.
Cllr McClafferty claimed that the current government “simply don’t understand rural life, particularly in Donegal”.
He added: “Life’s tough in Donegal. There is little employment for most, hence the huge migration. Some people are forced away to far corners of the world which is very sad.”
