A Letterkenny company who helped light up Letterkenny with a unique motor run has raised a brilliant €3,500 for two local charities.
Now in its third year, CBM Signs held its Light It Up Letterkenny Christmas Light Run just before Christmas Day.
An event which is now becoming an annual event since the COVID lockdown it again had a strong decorated entry of 50 lorries, 70 tractors, 50 cars and more more smiling spectators than ever.
Despite a yellow weather warning, the event went ahead with most having good cabs and heaters.
This determination by the organisers and the people taking part paid off as they were repaid with what turned out to be a great dry evening for the Christmas Light Run.
Bernard Gallagher of CBM Signs said he was delighted with the turn out of entries and people coming to Letterkenny to see it.
He said “The crowds reported and seen on some of the videos posted around Letterkenny were massive this year, some suggesting similar to a St. Patricks Day parade down the town which is brilliant. That was always the aim of this event it was created to give some Christmas Cheer during the Covid Lockdowns. It is an added bonus that it is a charity fundraiser as well full of Christmas Spirit.”
This year €3,500 was raised spilt between the Donegal Hospice and Blood Bikes Northwest who both received €1,750 each.
Bernard paid tribute to both amazing services.
He also thanked all his organising team and everyone who took the time and effort to decorate their cars, lorries and tractors and to everyone who donated on the night.
He paid particular tribute to the Gardai and especially Garda Mark Traynor on the Garda bike for leading out the run, their neighbours on the Port Road and the Boal family in Pine Hill Industrial Estate.
It may be only January but Bernard added “We are looking forward to Christmas 2024 already.”
