A young woman who lost her life in a collision outside Letterkenny on Friday has been named as Somali national Layla Hussein Ali.
The 22-year-old had been living in Ireland since March 2023.
She suffered fatal injuries when she was hit by a car at Illistrin, on the N56 between Letterkenny and Kilmacrennan on Friday evening at approx 7pm.
The young woman’s relatives in the UK have been notified and have travelled to Letterkenny, where they are being supported by a Garda family liaison officer.
Garda Inspector Seamus McGonigle has issued a renewed call for information concerning the fatal collision, particularly drivers with dashcam footage of the route and people with CCTV at private homes and businesses who may have footage taken between 6:00pm and 7:15pm on Friday evening 5th January.
