The Murder Capital have been shortlisted for this year’s RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year.
The post-punk five-piece band, which includes Letterkenny bassist Gabriel Blake, is nominated for the prestigious award for their second album, Gigi’s Recovery.
The dark and edgy album is both ‘pure’ and ‘confident’ but also brings in themes of existentialism, vulnerability and strength.
The Murder Capital are up against nine other acts for the Choice Music Prize, including CMAT, Soda Blonde and Kojaque.
The shortlist for this year’s RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year 2023, in association with IMRO & IRMA, was announced today on RTÉ 2FM’s Tracy Clifford Show.
The Murder Capital, formed in Dublin in 2018, made their live return in 2022.
2023 was their true breakout year, playing Glastonbury and Coachella and making their Donegal debut at the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny last September.
The Irish Album of the Year 2023 will be announced live from Vicar St on RTÉ 2FM in a special show 7-11pm on Thursday 7th March. The show will feature live performances from some of the shortlisted acts, further details on the line-up to be announced soon.
